Acting President Yeni Osinbajo chairs economic plan forum today, February 6

This is as Nigerians are still coming to terms with President Muhammadu Buhari's extended vacation in the United Kingdomwhich was announced yesterday, February 5.

Osinbajo will chair an economic plan forum to be attended by public and private sector operators at the State House later today.

According to Akpandem James, spokesman to the minister of budget and national planning, the forum is part of the process of finalising Nigeria’s Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (NERGP) 2017-2020 development process.

“The plan is expected to be formally launched by President Muhammadu Buhari within the month,” James said in a statement.

The statement noted that the NERGP is a follow-up to the Strategic Implementation Plan (SIP) which was a short-term economic plan to drive the implementation of the 2016 Budget.

In the SIP, government promised that it would deliver a more comprehensive economic recovery and growth plan subsequently.

The statement in part read: “In developing the NERGP, government had said there will be extensive consultation with relevant stakeholders, including the state governments.

“In keeping with that promise, government has alreday engaged and discussed with economic experts, the organized private sector, civil society groups, the academia and state governments.

“The plan is now at its final stage and will soon be launched.”

Meanwhile, Osinbajo held a meeting with members of the Presidential Task Force on the rising cost of food items in Nigeria last week.

The meeting took place on Friday, February 3, at Aguda House, the official residence of the Acting President, and was attended by all members of the group.

The Task Force was approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Wednesday, February 1, as part of efforts to enhance affordable food prices across country.
