HON. MONDAY EYO TO BUILD BASKETBALL COURT IN UYO.

A honourable member representing Uyo State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House Of Assembly Hon. Monday Eyo Okon says he supports giving priority to other sports apart from football, even as he plans to construct a standard basketball pitch in Uyo to promote the standard of basketball in the State.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Pulse Sports in Uyo, Hon. Monday Eyo who represent the good people of Uyo State Constituency in the State House decried the none-existence of standard basketball arena in his  State Constituency and even the State since creation of Akwa Ibom about 30 years ago.

"It's a shame that we don't have standard basketball pitch in my Constituency and the State as a whole since creation of our State in 1987till date. That is why i wish to embark on the construction of a standard basketball court in Uyo, the State Capital City. It will add value to the youths in the area, " said Hon. Monday Eyo.

"This will afford potential players to come out and train on a proper court. We should digress from our emphasis on football to promote the other sports. We are giving too much priority to the game of football to the detriment of other sports in the State and even the country at large," he added.

Hon. Monday Eyo said as a former player of basketball in his school days, he was moved to conceive the idea of constructing a standard basketball court in a more central part of Uyo in order for potential players to have access to use the facility.

He disclosed that he has donated three sets of Jersey to sports men and women from Uyo State Constituency who are participating in the on going Akwa Ibom State Youths Sports Festival, which the State grand finals comes up in Uyo from March 15 to 19, 2017 .
