According to the IRNA news agency, Iran did this in response to President Donald Trump’s executive order banning Muslims from entering America last week.

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Ghasemi said the decision was taken after it was looked at by a special committee adding that “unfortunately we were forced to take this step, based on the latest developments’’.

Trump’s executive order banned citizens from seven predominantly Muslim countries, including Iran from entering the U.S.

Several Iran media have however called for the planned presence of the wrestlers at the freestyle World Cup meet on Feb. 16 and 17 in the western Iranian city of Kermanshah.

Wrestling is very popular in both countries. American wrestlers have regularly competed in Iran, and Iranian wrestlers in the U.S., over the past two decades.
